Why should we take care of our environment? A small way of giving back to nature in our own way is the focus of World Environment Day. Man has been the main destructive force in the degradation of the environment. That is why, on the environment day every year, UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme), various events are organized across 100 countries in the world to spread awareness and make action plans to save the environment.
World Environment Day is celebrated on 5th June every year, promoted by the United Nations. Since 1974, the UN has been actively encouraging the concept of ‘People’s Day’ every year – one day in the year to do something for the ecology, consciously and responsibly.
In 2020, the theme was ‘Biodiversity,’ and in 2021, it is about ‘Ecosystem Restorations.’ UN is officially to launch the Ecosystem Restoration Decade that would involve focusing on growing trees, rewilding gardens, making cities and towns green, cleaning rivers and water bodies, cleaning coasts, and transforming our diets.
The basic question of why the environment is so crucial in our lives needs to be understood first. Nature plays an important role in the survival of living beings on Earth. The biotic and the abiotic environment need to be in the right balance for the sustenance of life. Any imbalance like global warming or the depleting ozone layer makes life difficult and challenging. If things are not addressed fast, our future generations may face fatal consequences.
If you think that taking care of the environment involves doing fancy things, you need to read here to know how by leading a healthy lifestyle, you can protect the environment and your health.
Develop a green area in your home. It could be a terrace garden, a small lawn, indoor air-quality enhancing plants, money plants in jars around the home, and more. Small steps that harmonize nature with our lives.
1. A healthy diet plan
Choosing to eat healthy by tweaking your diet, which is also one of the themes of World Environment Day this year, is the best way to help heal nature.
