Simply put, superset workouts are performing a set of two different exercises back to back and getting minimalistic rest in between. They are an advanced way of lifting weights that involves doing two or more exercises. Supersets are all the rage these days and that is because of two major reasons and that are- 1. They are very effective and 2. They increase the difficulty level of the workout by a notch. The exercises can target the same muscle group or different ones and can even be different types of exercises, meaning, you can even do alternate sets of cardio and strength training.

Types Of Supersets

There are many different types of superset workouts that you can indulge in. Let’s learn about those.

  1. Pre Exhaustion Supersets

This type of supersets involve 2 exercises for the same muscle group. The first exercise is supposed to be an isolation exercise and the second one a compound exercise.

  1. Post Exhaustion Supersets

As the name suggests, Post Exhaustion supersets are the opposite of pre exhaustion. These involve a compound move followed by an isolation movement.

  1. Isolation Supersets

Isolation superset workouts combine 2 different isolation exercises that target one muscle group and one joint and not 2 muscle groups or 2 joints.

  1. Compound Supersets

Compound supersets involve two compound movements, one after the other. This requires more energy and strength and target various different muscle groups at once.
