This Janmashtami 2026, channel Govinda's energy with the best workout.
Flying matkis and slippery human pyramids are the moment. But be sure to break a sweat before the dahi handi this season even if you are at home. Try this 10-minute Janmashtami workout built for strength, balance, and celebration with FITCOACH.
Janmashtami celebrates the birth of Lord Krishna, or as we lovingly call him, Kanhaiya. The essence of this festival reminds believers that kindness and truth prevail over injustice and evil. While you share the festive delicacies with kindness, prepare your body for all the high-energy dances and dahi handi (if you are feeling the festival to the max.) Janmashtmi passes down essential life lessons from the Bhagavad Gita, teaching the following:
You see, a Janmashtami workout is about staying balanced yet locked in.
It’s about consistently building strength to do more good in the world. If you are someone who has not yet started, what could be better than a power-packed home workout on Janmashtami?

No matki needed for this workout circuit!
Just some motivation and the spirit of Krishna. Work at your own pace and stop if you feel any discomfort or unusual shortness of breath. Here’s an overview of the Janmashtami workout routine.

You need strong feet, a tall chest, and controlled movement to create a stable base for the whole team. If you are not going for dahi handi, tempo squats will still benefit you a lot. This exercise causes microscopic muscle damage (stretch reflex), which is a core trigger for muscle hypertrophy. In strength training, tempo squats are all about controlling the speed of each phase of the squat (3 seconds down, a 1-second pause, and then explosive up). Here's what you need to do:
Whether you are participating in Dahi Handi or you prefer watching it, lunges are a great workout for all. Add a knee drive as you stand to make it harder. If you want to make it easier, then keep the lunge shallow or hold onto a sturdy chair for balance.
With push-ups, remember that quality matters more than the number of repetitions. Perform the move against a wall, kitchen counter, or sofa edge if you need an easy version of this push-up exercise.
The plank-tap exercise challenges the stabilising muscles that help you stay steady when reaching, climbing, or changing direction. You can benefit most from this exercise if you move slowly enough. Your core must do the work. Not the momentum.
Think of it as the final dance break before the dahi handi is broken. Need a low-impact option? Replace high knees with a fast march, lifting one knee at a time without jumping.

A Quick Safety Note This is a Janmashtami-themed workout. This does not constitute training for a Dahi Handi pyramid. Avoid attempting human pyramids unless you are part of an organised and supervised group with appropriate safety measures. |
