The T20I series 2026 just ended in a 2-2 draw due to heavy rains. As we come to an end with the IND vs WI series, let's not dial down the cricket skills and enthusiasm. If you love the sport, you probably already know about the Bronco Test.
The FITPASS network offers several cricket academies in your city for cricket training. Whether you are a recreational cricket enthusiast or an athlete aiming for productive practice sessions, the Bronco Test is a solid way to check your cardiovascular health and agility. This blog goes over it all.
Besides, we discuss how you can access indoor and outdoor cricket fields to build your sports endurance with FITPASS.

Discussing peak cricket moments with friends is fun. Whether you enjoy playing cricket progressively or recreationally, you have landed on the right page. The Bronco Test is an endurance test that the BCCI added as a benchmark for cricket in August 2025.
Ramji Srinivasan, the former strength and conditioning coach of the Indian cricket team, said "The Bronco Test could be done by anyone who is regular with any type of physical activity, including brisk walking, running, and cardio."
Essentially, it is a dynamic shuttle run practice focused on aerobic performance. Start at a slow pace if you are a non-athlete. This improves:
Given everything, this is not an easy endurance test.
Before you test your cricket fitness Bronco style, we recommend that you go for a serious warm-up session before attempting this test. If you are a recreational cricket enthusiast, then do not attempt this test without a warm-up.
The Bronco Test is an aerobic endurance test that includes three performance markers at 60 m, 40 m, and 20 m. The player has to complete 5 sets of continuous running from the starting point within a stipulated time. The Bronco Test involves 25 changes of direction that naturally slow the players down. Think about 5 turns per shuttle run set, continuously for 5 sets.
Earlier, cricket players in India had to pass another standard endurance test, which is the Yo Yo Test. It is an endurance test for cricket and other field sports.
Here’s a comparison of both of these fitness tests.

Turns out, the Bronco test is considerably challenging!
That is why the BCCI introduced it as a standard test for elite cricket players. The test is also preferred by local sports enthusiasts who play cricket progressively.

India's group-stage exit at the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup was not as good this year. The BCCI opted for a change of approach by tightening the fitness requirements. The BCCI has introduced a new fitness test in cricket to measure:
While these are essentials for elite athletes and elite cricket players, this is a great way to measure fitness even for recreational cricket players.
Maximal Aerobic Speed (MAS) is the fastest speed an athlete can sustain while primarily using their aerobic system. The Bronco test can be used to calculate a player’s maximal aerobic speed (MAS) in cricket. MAS is the speed at which you can run before your body starts to experience fatigue. Optimal breathing and oxygen intake in the lungs help athletes improve aerobic endurance.
Our must-read guide on boosting VO2 max shares the best breathing exercises.
To calculate your MAS score from the Bronco test, divide the total distance of the test (1,200 m) by the total time taken to complete it in seconds, i.e., MAS = distance ÷ time. Let’s say that you cover 1,200 m in 5 minutes (300 seconds).
1,200 ÷ 300 = 4 m/s.
So your 100% MAS will be 4 m/s.
For fitness progression and conditioning, it is best if an individual uses 120% MAS. In this case, it will be 4 × 1.2 = 4.8 m/s. So if you run intervals at 4.8 m/s for a set time or distance, it will help you boost your aerobic capacity.
